What is an outcome?
- An outcome is the measurable objective a solution unblocks a problem to achieve
- An outcome is not to simply implement a solution to a problem
- Before thinking about problems and solutions, we need to know our current status for every outcome
- All outcomes from top to bottom must be outlined and communicated, this allows teams to see where their responsibilities overlap and facilitates collaboration
What is a problem?
- A problem is something that blocks us from achieving an outcome
What is a solution?
- A solution is an experiment, a hypothesis that is meant to solve a problem, blocking an outcome,
- but needs to exist after we know what outcome we're aiming for, and needs to be checked after implementation, to see if the outcome was reached
- If the outcome wasn't reached, then we need to iterate on the solution
What is success?
- Success is reaching an outcome we were aiming for, not simply implementing a solution
